Newark and Wi-Fi: Where to Find the Best Hot Spots

This post could be a continuation of Bill’s earlier post on coffee houses in Newark. Which ones offer free Wi-Fi ? Most of them do, including Panera, Brew-Ha-Ha, and the Central Perk. Starbucks, on the other hand, does not. They have a “corporate” agreement with T-Mobile that makes you pay for their Wi-Fi, which is a load of B.S. if you ask me. No need to fret, however, as you can actually tap into Panera’s hotspot if you grab a window seat at Starbucks. Considerate a way of sticking it to the large coffee giant. Anybody else have a favorite hotspot in Newark?

UD’s Wi-Fi network is pretty nice and spread out, unfortunately you have to have an account from UD though!

    yeah, Starbucks is the worse!

I’m such an ugly American. I purchase my espresso each morning at Starbucks because it’s the only coffee shop that accepts credit & debit cards and has no minimum.

Central Perk or the place next to the five & dime (brain fart; can’t remain its name) has the best coffee. And the latter place’s beans are fair trade.

This is a great information for me since I’m just about to leave my country to study in UD and I can’t live without internet.
You have to pay for an internet access in Starbucks!!?? Even cafes in a poor country like my country, Indonesia, give free internet access. That is just so wrong.

    Hi Dino,

Great to hear that you are coming to Delaware.

The good news is that there are plenty of other places in Newark that offer free internet access if you have a laptop.

Be happy to show you around Newark a little if you want, once you get to town.

    Dino,

Bill’s right. There are plenty of better places that have free access. And if you need a beer instead of coffee, Iron Hill Brewery has a hotspot as well.

Pardon my ignorance, but aren’t you really sticking it to Panera Bread and not Starbucks if you’re using Panera’s signal while having a coffee at (and hence giving your business to) Starbucks?

  7. William Slawski Says:

    Probably both, Pranshu.

I don’t often bring my laptop to one of the local coffee houses, but I never bring it to Starbucks. I have a few times to Panera.
